There is a great deal of research, teaching and utilisation happening around water as a subject at Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg. Although the researchers and teachers have their connections, an overview of all initiatives has been missing.
The Thematic Working Group Water has mapped all water researchers at the two universities with a focus on Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), Clean Water and Sanitation, and in particular activities related to sustainable development. This is in accordance with the visions of both universities.
The working group also identified connections and collaborations regarding research, teaching and utilisation with partners at the two universities and with universities and other partners in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
As a result of the mapping, the Water Network was launched and established during the spring of 2022. The purpose of the network is to gather water researchers, inform about how best to establish connections with partners for ‘inhouse’ collaboration and how to form research consortia for larger applications within the water area, to attract external funding. The network also makes it possible for water researchers to much easier connect with one another, share knowledge and experiences, identify research gaps, and find collaboration opportunities.
The next step for the network of water researchers is to get to know each other better. Global Sustainable Futures (GSF) will contribute to this by arranging meetings around a specific issue where members quickly present their interests linked to this issue and any collaboration ideas. GSF are also planning a meeting where we will try to connect members' ideas linked to water treatment in LMICs with a couple of current funding opportunities.
